2022-2025 The project “Ikumi. Visual Testimonies of Women Victims of Forced Sterilizations in Cuzco” was carried out by an interdisciplinary team of artist-researchers, anthropologists, ethnographers, and survivors, who developed a participatory and multilingual (Quechua-Spanish) artistic project.

Through artistic workshops held at the House of Healing in Anta, Cuzco, each woman victim and/or survivor of forced sterilization created her own visual testimony using an innovative methodology that links the practice of embroidery with memory and conceptual imagery, grounded in the psychology of color and the power of words from an empirical approach. In this way, the women connect their traumatic experiences with their own visions of the past and the future, creating unique narratives of the events they endured. Thus, the history of pain can be transmitted to new generations, who learn to weave in kallwa the memory of their ancestors.
